Everything you actually need to know before your Genting Dream cruise from Singapore — documents, what to pack, the exact embarkation process, costs and gratuities, dress code and disembarkation. Sourced directly from official StarDream Cruises information and our 30+ first-hand sailings.
Cruising for the first time on the Genting Dream is genuinely exciting — and a little overwhelming if you don't know what to expect. The good news: it's a remarkably well-organised process once you understand the timeline. This guide walks you through every step from the day you book until the day you disembark.
Everything below is based on the official StarDream Cruises pre-cruise guidelines for 2026 sailings from Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore, cross-checked against our own onboard experience across 30-plus sailings. Specific numbers (gratuity rates, fuel surcharge, online check-in timing) reflect the current 2026 policy and are subject to change — re-confirm at booking.
When to do what, working backwards from your sailing date.
Best fares and cabin availability are 3–6 months ahead, especially for peak school holidays and festive long weekends. Connecting cabins for families and Palace suites sell out fastest.
Full balance is due 60 days before departure. After this date, cancellation penalties typically increase steeply — check your specific booking terms.
Passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your sailing date. Check visa requirements for every port visited (depends on your nationality).
Specialty restaurant tables, spa treatments and shore excursions can be reserved through the StarDream Cruises website or the dining team after boarding. Booking ahead saves the day-1 rush.
Visit stardreamcruises.com → Manage My Cruise and complete the online check-in. Closes 24 hours before sailing. Skipping this means a much longer queue at the cruise terminal.
All non-Singaporean travellers must submit the Singapore Arrival Card online within 3 days before arrival in Singapore. There is no app needed; the form is on the official ICA website.
If you're flying in, book a hotel in Singapore for the night before. Never plan to arrive the same morning — flight delays will make you miss the ship and cruise lines do not refund missed sailings.
Bring physical copies where possible. Digital backups in your email + phone too — but printed e-tickets help if Wi-Fi or apps glitch on boarding day.
Each guest is allowed up to 2 pieces of personal luggage onboard. Travel light — your cabin is compact and the cruise is short.
Anything below will be confiscated at security and either returned at disembarkation (alcohol) or disposed of (perishables, illegal items). Save yourself the hassle and leave them at home.
The cruise fare is only one part. Here's the realistic breakdown so you know exactly what to budget — illustrated for a 2-night sailing for 2 adults sharing a Balcony Stateroom.

The Genting Dream sails from Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore (MBCCS) at 61 Marina Coastal Drive, Singapore 018947. Here are the practical ways to get there.
From Changi Airport — about 25 minutes. From central Singapore (Orchard, Marina Bay) — 10–20 minutes. Best option if travelling with luggage or family.
~SGD 25–35 from airportTake the North-South Line (NS) to Marina South Pier station (NS28) — the terminus. Exit A, walk about 600 metres / 10 minutes to the cruise centre. Newer alternative: Gardens by the Bay station on the Thomson-East Coast Line.
~SGD 2–3 from cityPublic bus 400 stops near the cruise centre. Not recommended with bulky luggage — works fine if you're travelling light.
~SGD 1.50 fareThis is the single most common pain point of the Genting Dream — expect 1 to 2 hours of queue time during peak periods. Here's exactly what happens, step by step.
Get to 61 Marina Coastal Drive at least 2 hours before the "last boarding" time on your ticket. Arrive at the start of your assigned boarding window — not earlier, not later. Palace guests have a separate VIP entrance.
Bring: Passport + e-ticketHead to the baggage drop area outside the main entrance. Staff will tag each bag with your deck and cabin number — your luggage will be delivered to your cabin within 2–4 hours. Bags larger than 55×25×40 cm must be checked in.
Keep: Passport, meds, valuables, swimwear, change of clothesPass through airport-style X-ray and metal detection. Outside alcohol, weapons and other prohibited items will be confiscated here. Alcohol is held until disembarkation; perishables and banned items are disposed of.
Time: 10–20 minutes typicallyShow your passport and Singapore Arrival Card (SGAC) confirmation. Foreign nationals may also need to scan biometrics. This is standard departure immigration.
Time: 15–30 minutes during peakPresent your e-ticket and passport. You'll receive your red Access Card — your room key, ship ID and onboard payment method. A lanyard is usually provided. Your passport will be collected and held by cruise staff for the duration of the sailing.
Receive: Access Card · Surrender: PassportYou'll be directed upstairs to a waiting area. Boarding groups are called in sequence — listen for announcements or watch the screen. Palace guests are called first.
Time: 15–45 minutesWalk through the gangway onto the ship. A welcome photo is taken (optional purchase). The crew will direct you to your deck or to a public area while cabins are finalised — usually after 2:00 PM. Cabin doors typically open from mid-afternoon.
You're onboard!Every passenger must attend the safety drill — typically held in the early evening of the sailing day. Your assembly station is printed on your Access Card. Skipping the drill is taken seriously and can delay the ship's departure.
Time: ~20 minutesWhat our team always does in the first few hours of every sailing, in order. Follow this and you'll skip 80% of common first-timer mistakes.
The buffet on Deck 16 is open from boarding. It's the easiest first meal — and a great way to orient yourself with the layout. Outdoor seating is calmest.
It's printed on your Access Card. Walk past it once so you know exactly where to go for the safety drill — saves time later.
Book your specialty restaurant reservations on day-1 — especially Umi Uma teppanyaki and Bistro by Mark Best. They sell out fastest. Palace guests can ask their butler.
Available in your cabin or at Guest Services. This is your master schedule for the sailing — show times, themed nights, kids' club sessions, pool deck activities, port-day timings.
The app shows the daily program, lets you book dining and excursions, and shows your bill in real-time. Free to download; works on the ship's intranet without needing a Wi-Fi package.
Spa prices drop noticeably on port days when most guests go ashore. Book one of these slots in advance — same treatment, much better value.
Mandatory. Usually held early evening. Listen for the announcement, head to your assembly station with your Access Card.
The best spot to watch Singapore disappear over the horizon. Bring a drink from the Sun Deck Bar and find a quiet corner. The casino opens once the ship clears Singapore waters.
The Genting Dream's overall code is smart-casual — much more relaxed than old-school cruise formal nights. Here's the venue-by-venue reality.
Shorts, T-shirts, sundresses, swimwear at the pool only. Cover up to leave the pool area.
T-shirts and shorts are fine even at dinner. The only "no" is wet swimwear or no shirt.
Collared shirts, dresses or smart trousers for dinner. No flip-flops or swimwear.
Slightly smarter for Umi Uma, Silk Road or Prime Steakhouse. Closed shoes recommended.
Whatever you wore to dinner is fine. Bring layers — the theatre runs cool.
Foam-party guests show up in swimwear. Standard club attire otherwise.
On 3-night+ sailings, one night is flagged smart-elegant. Cocktail dress or smart suit — not required, just encouraged.
Closed shoes mandatory for ropes course, zipline and rock climbing. Athletic wear for the SportsPlex.
The last morning is busier than you'd expect. Plan ahead and you'll be off the ship in 30 minutes; rush it and you'll spend hours in another queue.
On the second-to-last evening, settle any outstanding balance via the app or at Guest Services. Doing this the night before saves a long morning queue.
Check: Your folio for unfamiliar chargesPassports are usually returned at a designated counter near the front of your deck, the night before disembarkation. Times are listed in the Dream Daily. Skipping this is the #1 reason for delays.
Bring: Your Access Card for verificationIf you don't want to carry your bags off, leave them outside your cabin door by the specified time (usually before midnight). They'll be collected and you'll pick them up at the terminal baggage claim.
Keep: Documents, meds, valuables in your carry-onThe Disembarkation Notice you receive on the last night tells you your departure window and meeting point. Don't try to leave early — you'll be sent back to wait.
Be ready: At your meeting point, on timeStandard arrival immigration — passport ready, follow the queue. Usually quicker than embarkation.
Time: 15–30 minutesBaggage claim is just past immigration. Taxi rank and MRT entrance are right outside the terminal. The whole disembarkation usually takes 30–60 minutes if you've prepped the night before.
You're done! The numbers, timings and procedures in this guide come from the official StarDream Cruises pre-cruise documentation, the Resorts World Cruises FAQ, the Klook 2026 booking confirmation page, and our own first-hand experience over 30-plus sailings. Where policies are subject to change (fuel surcharge, gratuity rates), we've noted it — re-confirm at booking. Where something is our subjective tip ("arrive at the start of your boarding window"), we've labelled it as a tip.
